Wood used for the bridge must be strong to withstand the pull of the strings. Ebony has long been the traditional premier bridge wood for steel string guitars based on its high strength. East Indian Rosewood is common as a more available alternative. Besides Ebony and Indian Rosewood, I also use Cocobolo Rosewood and Ziricote. Both have a strength similar to Ebony, but provides some very interesting aesthetic options.
